Impact
Both product lines win on cost first. The environmental gains come with the purchase, at no premium.
The problem
Copper-based antifouling paint works by leaching biocides into the water column, continuously, in every harbor the vessel visits. It has to: that's the mechanism. Regulators in key ports are tightening rules year after year, and every repaint cycle sends scraped residue into the yard.
Finsulate contains no copper, tin, or biocides. The fibers stop fouling physically, so there's nothing to leach, in port or underway.
Fouling adds drag; drag burns fuel. A hull that stays clean moves more efficiently for its whole service life, which is where a working fleet's largest footprint sits.
Hy.G's RIM motors run without oil, grease, or gasoline. No exhaust in the water, no fuel spills at the dock, and near-silence for wildlife and neighbors.
Recognition
Finsulate® grew out of PhD research at Delft University of Technology and is patented worldwide; the technology won the Dutch Innovation Award in 2014 under the Micanti brand. Hy.G Motors has designed and built its RIM drives in Vannes, Brittany since 2012, from raw copper, neodymium, and carbon rather than bought-in assemblies.
ORCA Marine (Ocean Innov Eco Solutions LLC) is the North American link: a Cleantech Open 2025 participant, based at TechPlace in Brunswick, Maine, bringing both technologies to US and Canadian waters.
Investors
Two revenue lines, one distribution company: hull protection with a documented per-vessel ROI, and electric propulsion entering the US market as marinas and fleets electrify. Ask for the investor briefing if you'd like the full picture.
Whether you run a vessel, a yard, or a fund, the conversation starts the same way: with the numbers for one specific hull.
